Questions?
Registration for 2019 is closed - thanks to all who signed up for the season!

Can I still sign up for garden deliveries for 2019?
Registration for the 2019 season is closed.  Registration will open for the 2020 season in mid-December. If you would like to be added to our contact list for next year, please let us know.

When will my deliveries begin?
The start date for your garden deliveries depends on which share you requested.  Share sizes and delivery dates for 2019 are as follows:
  • Whole Season Share (Half or Full):18 weekly deliveries from June 4 to October 1. Enjoy a full season of fresh, seasonal vegetables from early spring greens to summer favorites to fall flavors.
  • Every Other Week Share: 9 deliveries every other Tuesday throughout the full season.  You will be assigned either "even" or "odd" weeks, so delivery dates depend on that. Odd Weeks begin June 4 and Even Weeks begin on June 11. Enjoy the same variety as the full season share, half as often.  This box share is delivered every other week through the season, in full or half share sizes.
  • Season's Eatings - a once a month delivery for six months, May through October. Enjoy just a taste of every season with this once-a-month box.  A great option for gifts or those new to the CSA.  Receive one box per month, delivered the fourth Tuesday of every month. 2019 dates include: May 28, June 25, July 23, August 27, September 24, and October 22.
  • Great Greens: · 5 deliveries from May 28 to June 25. Features early season items such as salad mix, lettuce, spinach, kale, and Swiss chard. Receive a full box every week for the first five weeks of the season.
  • Summer's Best: · 10 deliveries from July 2 to September 3. Features mid-summer garden goodies such as tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, beans, zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers and much more. Receive a full box every week from the week of July 4 through Labor Day.
  • Fall Flavors: · 5 deliveries from September 10 to Oct. 8. Features late season favorites such as squash, pie pumpkins, onions, potatoes and more.  Receive a full box every week for the last five weeks of the season.
  • Salsa Package: Make your best batch of salsa to can or freeze with 20 lbs of canning tomatoes, along with onions, garlic, hot peppers, and sweet peppers. Deliveries are arranged in August or September. Salsa and Sauce Packages are $35 as a stand-alone order and $30 if you order as an add-on to another vegetable share of any size.
  • Sauce Package: Create the perfect pasta sauce to can or freeze. With 20 lbs. of canning tomatoes, plus garlic, onions, sweet peppers and basil. Deliveries are arranged in August or September.

What is a CSA?
CSA stand for Community Supported Agriculture, sometimes referred to as a farm share.  Community members buy a "share" of the farm during the winter months, providing seed money for the farmer to make garden plans and purchases.  When the growing season arrives, the farmer provides a regular delivery of vegetables to the community members.   Read more about the CSA model from Local Harvest.

How much does this cost?
The cost of the CSA depends on what size of a share you decide works best for you.  Keep in mind that the true value of your share increases if you are able to freeze or preserve some of the items, if you can't eat them all.  Freezing or properly storing certain items will keep you eating seasonally all year long.  To see this year's prices, download the sign up form from the top of this page.

How is a CSA different than shopping at the farmers' market?
Both are successful ways to connect with local farmers, but CSA and the market are different.

The farmers' market is great for those who want certain items in particular amounts.  You can pick and choose exactly what you want and decide how much you are getting.  You might have to stand in line, or help us unload our truck when we're running late, but hopefully that's part of the fun!!

The CSA is a good fit for those who enjoy (or are willing to try!) a wide range of vegetables in a variety of ways.  We plan our garden season around our CSA customers and make their share of the farm a priority.  If you like to eat lots of different things, have the time to cook and eat a meal at home at least once or twice a week and have fun trying new recipes, a CSA membership might work well for you!

Where and how are the boxes delivered?
Currently delivery is available to homes and businesses in Algona.  If you live out of town, boxes can also be picked up from the Algona Family YMCA or from our farm.  For those picking up at the YMCA, any boxes not picked up with 24 hours will be donated.  We deliver the boxes by car right to your door, along with recipes and cooking tips for that week's produce.

When are boxes delivered?
Tuesday is delivery day, with boxes typically delivered between 4 and 6 p.m.  Farm pick ups can be made anytime after 3 p.m. We are happy to hold your box in our cooler if you can't pick it up that day.

Can I pick and chose what I get in my CSA box?
Due to the number of deliveries we make, we typically are unable to take special requests such as "no zucchini, please" and so on.  If there are certain items you don't enjoy, it's a great opportunity for you to share those with a neighbor, family member or friend who does.

When do I receive my salsa or sauce package?
If you added an extra package onto your share, we will contact you to set up a time for delivery.  Typically sauce and salsa packages are ready in August or September.  If you have a date when it would be convenient to receive your package, please let us know.

What is in the box?
The contents of your box will vary from week to week, depending on what is in season.  Each box includes a list of what is included and some recipe ideas.  The first four weeks are very green and leafy with lots of spinach, greens, salad mix and lettuce.  We eventually work into peas, greens beans, onions, peppers, tomatoes, basil, sweet corn, potatoes, squash, cucumbers and many other items.  We try to grow a tasty mix of garden favorites, like red tomatoes, potatoes and cucumbers with a few interesting things like purple cauliflower, heirloom tomato varieties, and Red Russian kale.

May I come and tour the farm?
Farm tours are available - please contact in advance to let us know when you would like to visit.

Can I give a CSA as a gift?
Yes!  A CSA share is a great gift, just be sure that the location is within our delivery area. Contact us for a gift certificate if you like.

Do I have to pay for my share all at once?
A down payment of $50 is required at the time of sign up to reserve your share.  Payments can be made in up to four installments.  Shares must be paid for in full by May 17, 2019.
